Kamal Haasan, the legend of contemporary Indian cinema, is all set to enthrall his fans in an intense action avatar in Mani Ratnam’s action drama, Thug Life. The film is hitting theaters on June 5th, and the pre-release buzz, along with the dream star cast, together made Thug Life a most eagerly awaited movie for fans.
In a recent interview with Gulte Pro, when asked about how he envisages the future of cinema and stardom, Kamal Haasan had a very pertinent reflection. “It’s going to be highly democratised. It’s very, very difficult to become a big star in that environment. There will still be stars, but it’s going to be a little more difficult because it’s not a lottery anymore, it’s a real running race. The kind of race you ran to your mother’s womb. That’s how difficult it’s going to be in another 20 years,” said the legend.
“Millions would be running for the same space that Kamal Haasan is running, STR (Simbu) is running. There’ll be 40 million people in the world who will be attempting it (the race). You have to be fast, good, perfect, and on the dot,” Kamal added, giving a taste of his unbeatable intellect. Kamal’s prophecy foresees a possible scenario where the art of filmmaking and cinema will no longer be just for the elites alone, and millions will be exploring cinema with the advent of AI and other advanced technology.
Interestingly, at a recent event while promoting Thug Life, Kamal said that he would step down from acting the day he found four actors who were better than him. Needless to say, Kamal’s audacious statement drew a mixed response, with many calling him arrogant and superficial.
