Actor Suriya and director Karthik Subbaraj united for the film Retro. Despite releasing amid good expectations, this film ended up as a big disappointment at the box office. People criticised its lacklustre screenplay and the slow-paced narration, without conveying the main conflict properly. The film premiered on the OTT platform Netflix a few weeks ago but failed to generate any buzz in the digital space as well.
Meanwhile, Karthik Subbaraj said that he wants to add 40 minutes of extra footage to the current version and release an extended version of Retro to present the entire film and its intentions in a better way.
In a recent interview, he said that he is in talks with the OTT platform to release Retro’s extended version after 3-4 months. “It has deeper emotions and detailed action sequences. Retro is divided into 4-5 episodes, with each episode of around 40 minutes. All these episodes will feature more detail in the Spiritual, Cult, and Laughter angles of the movie,” said Subbaraj.
After watching his statements, most of the people on social media felt that filmmakers should not be obsessed with their films when the film is out, and the audience gave their verdict. They opined that extending the length may not change the opinion of the audience.
A few people who watched the current version and were disappointed may not watch the extended version either. So, they said it would be better if Subbaraj accepts the viewers’ verdict, take them into consideration and tries to correct himself in the next film.
