Censor Board Stalls Union Minister’s Film ‘Janaki’

Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi is currently active in the controversies. After his comments going viral over the Empuraan controversy, he is now striking headlines for his film, Janaki vs State of Kerala.

The issue has come into light with the Censor board stalling the film’s release over the usage of word Janaki in the film’s title. Suresh Gopi plays the lead role in the film while Anupama Parameswaran is doing a Malayalam film after quite some time.

As per the reports, the board reportedly asked the team to change the name as it refers to Hindu goddess Sita. Set against the backdrop of Kerala’s judicial system, the story follows Janaki (played by Anupama Parameswaran), a woman who seeks justice after a traumatic event. Suresh Gopi plays the senior advocate representing her in court. The film explores themes of justice, truth, and individual resilience.

Suresh Gopi plays an advocate in the film and since he is Union minister, the controversy caught a lot of attention. The film is scheduled for a grand release on 27th June. But, Suresh Gopi is yet to react to the ongoing developments.

Despite the regional board giving a clean chit to the film, the officials in Mumbai have demanded to change the film’s title. Additionally, the concern from the makers is that if they had to change the title, it would also mean that they have to make a lot of changes to the dialogues.

The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) condemned this and said they will organise protests if the board continues with its demands.
