Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor for Jawan, a film where he played a common man standing up against corruption. His role was intense, emotional, and very different from what audiences usually see from him. Sharing the award with him was Vikrant Massey, who delivered a deeply moving performance in 12th Fail. Rani Mukerji won Best Actress for Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, a film based on a real story. She played a mother who fights alone against a foreign government to get back her children. Her performance was full of pain, strength, and courage. It was one of the most emotional roles of the year.
