Mohanlal’s 100 Cr Hat-trick at Stake?

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has just created a rare hat-trick. The National Award-winning legend’s recently released family entertainer, Hridayapoorvam, has entered the Rs 50 crore gross club globally, making Mohanlal the first-ever Mollywood actor to deliver three Rs 50 crore movies in a row.

Lalettan’s previous two movies, E2: Empuraan and Thudarum, ended up grossing over Rs 200 crores. With Lokah: Chapter 1 running very strongly, Mollywood trade pundits predict that Hridayapoorvam has only moderate chances of crossing the ₹100 crore milestone in its full run, which could make it Mohanlal’s hat-trick ₹100 crore grosser.

However, it will be interesting to see if Hridayapoorvam will manage to touch the Rs 100 crore mark eventually. Being a feel-good drama, the film lacks the mass appeal to attract audiences in huge numbers. Also, even the family audiences may reduce after the Onam festive weekend. In the end, it’s purely Mohanlal’s star power that will determine Hridayapoorvam’s fate at the box office.

Hridayapoorvam also features Malavika Mohanan, Sangeeth Prathap, and Sangita Madhavan Nair in lead roles. Acclaimed Mollywood filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad has directed the movie, while Antony Perumbavoor, the producer of Mohanlal’s Drishyam, bankrolled it under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner.
