No Promotions; No Result Anushka!

Star actress Anushka’s return to the cinema with her new film “Ghaati” ended up as a massive disappointment. This Krish Jagarlamudi directorial was released last Friday and opened to disastrous box office openings and negative reviews. As a result, the film failed to pick up and was heading towards becoming a flop at the box office.

Moreover, Anushka’s move of promoting the film through audio clips without attending physical promotions didn’t work well with the audience. The makers of Ghaati failed to realize audiences. These audio promotions would reach only certain sections of people on social media and not families in households. They are the real fanbase of Anushka, who don’t have a significant social media presence. The makers of Ghaati failed to realise this fact and thus couldn’t get good openings for the film.

Whenever Anushka’s film is up for release, people expect a power-packed performance from her. Ghaati promised to showcase Anushka in a never-before-seen action avatar. However, neither her performance nor those action sequences impressed the audience. People who watched the film felt that the movie failed at the writing level without any “wow” factor, which the audience expects, and even Anushka couldn’t do anything about it.

Meanwhile, people also feel that Anushka should start coming out and promoting her films and avoid these audio promotions. They expect her to be physically present at promotional events, which would make a significant impact in getting good openings. Anushka didn’t promote her last film, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty, as well. However, Naveen Polishetty single-handedly promoted the film aggressively and ensured good openings. Moreover, along with Anushka’s charming persona, Naveen’s brilliant performance and a cute story helped that movie shine at the box office. So, people didn’t really point out Anushka’s absence in promotions.

But due to Ghaati’s failure, they now feel that the actress should come out and promote her films to ensure good openings and sustain her box-office pull. Anushka will be next seen in the Malayalam film Kathanar. It remains to be seen if she chooses to attend those promotions at least. Kathanar is slated for release towards the end of this year.
