SK Blames Ticket Prices for Kollywood Missing ₹1000 Cr

Gone are those days when everyone involved in making a film used to prioritize quality content. With the change of times, everyone is trying to mint maximum revenues at the box office by crook or nook. They have pre-planned calculations and based on the same, they allocate a budget and make a movie.

It is the reason why audiences are not convinced that a particular film was made with 100 Cr, but in reality, it does not reflect on the screen. Now, the latest achievement for everyone is entering the 1000 Cr club. Siva Karthikeyan, who recently opened up on the same.

Speaking about the particular aspect, Siva Karthikeyan believed that Tamil cinema is steadily getting there and he hoped that they will enter the 1000 Cr club in a few years. “Many Tamil films failed to reach 1000 Crs, either because they lacked the storytelling quality or because it was not pan-Indian,” the actor said.

Additionally, Siva Karthikeyan believes that ticket pricing also makes a difference, more than the quality of content. “If we charge as much as Bangalore or Mumbai, Jailer would have crossed 800 – 1000Crs easily. I am not in favour of increasing the ticket prices. Our film needs North Indian penetration,” he stated.

Siva Karthikeyan is also an actor from Tamil who is trying to push his industry further. With some quality films like Amaran, he has lready generated a push to Kollywood in the North circuit. However, he is equally disappointed, like many, in terms of how Tamil films could not achieve 1000 Cr rupees in recent times, despite scoring hits like Vikram, Leo, Jailer, Amaran, and some others.

There were expectations on Thug Life, PS franchise, Indian 2, Leo and Coolie but nothing worked out. Siva Karthikeyan’s Madharaasi also carried the weight of these expectations but things did not work in the favour of the movie.
