Rishab Shetty scored a big blockbuster with Kantara a couple of years ago and the movie turned everyone’s attention towards the Kannada film industry. The film’s prequel, titled Kantara: Chapter 1 is now gearing up for a grand release on October 2nd, 2025. The team released the trailer today which is technically sound.
The team surprised everyone with a lengthy trailer, which is close to three minutes. The trailer unfolds with Shiva’s son standing in the same spot where his father disappeared into the forest. And then, the trailer unveils the good vs evil theme, introducing more characters from the past. The central theme of the film is about greed. It also showcases how a King oppresses the people and in what situation they revolted. The trailer has a mix of nature, folklore and divine elements, much drasic to what has happened in Kantara.
The hype of the film is too big that a strong trailer would set the expectations. The technical team has done an amazing job with getting perfect visuals and VFX. But the devine element is very limited in the trailer. It might be the team’s decision to keep in that way to set the expectations right.
Produced by Hombale Films, the movie delves into the ancient origins of the Bhoota Kola ritual. The screenplay has been co-written by Rishab, Anirudh Mahesh, and Shanil Guru. Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Gulshan Deviah and others are a part of the movie. Arvind Kashyap is the cinematographer. Suresh Sankalan is the editor while Ajneesh Loknath is the music director.
On the whole, the trailer impresses with stunning visuals and world-building, though the pacing of the cut feels a bit off. We have to see how the film will reach the sky-high expectations for a Kantara prequel, but it promises an unmissable theatrical experience. With strong word of mouth, it can deliver big at the box office.
