OG: Sujeeth’s Redemption of Pawan Kalyan’s Jhonny

Pawan Kalyan’s latest film, They Call Him OG, released last Thursday and has already grossed ₹250 crores at the box office. The film is now moving towards ₹300 crores. The team held a success meet on Wednesday evening in Hyderabad with the cast and crew in attendance. The event was the first opportunity for them to speak about the film, as the pre-release event had been cut short earlier due to heavy rain.

The film is widely seen as a redemption for Jhonny, Pawan Kalyan’s earlier directorial, which did not perform well at the box office. Despite its failure, Jhonny had its own audience who appreciated Pawan Kalyan’s unique style of storytelling.

Director Sujeeth, admitted that Jhonny had a significant influence on They Call Him OG. Speaking about it, Sujeeth said he began writing OG inspired by Jhonny, intending to celebrate the earlier film and give it a bigger platform.

Addressing Sujeeth’s remarks, Pawan Kalyan said he was unaware that OG was inspired by Jhonny. He admitted he had always felt guilty for not putting more effort into Jhonny and said he would have made different choices to achieve better results.

Pawan Kalyan said that with the success of They Call Him OG, that sense of regret has now been cleared. He praised Sujeeth’s direction team, saying he wished he had such a team for Jhonny. He noted that teamwork was missing in Jhonny. He also emphasized the importance of experimentation in filmmaking, stating that trying new approaches is necessary rather than sticking to the same path.
