Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG, which released on September 25, is nearing the end of its theatrical run. The film collected close to Rs 300 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year. It performed strongly in several territories and continued its momentum for weeks after release.
The film’s digital streaming rights were sold to Netflix for a huge price even before its theatrical release. Among major platforms like Prime Video, Zee5 and Jio Hotstar, Netflix has been offering big deals for major films but with a shorter theatrical window of four weeks. They Call Him OG has followed the same pattern.
The film will start streaming on Netflix from Thursday, October 23, exactly four weeks after its theatrical release. While this quick turnaround benefits online viewers, some audiences feel it reduces the exclusivity of the big-screen experience, especially given the high ticket prices.
Recent big releases like Pushpa 2: The Rule and Devara Part 1 have opted for longer theatrical windows of eight and six weeks respectively, while most others continue to settle for four-week deals for higher OTT revenues.
They Call Him OG stars Pawan Kalyan, Emraan Hashmi, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Neha Shetty, Arjun Das, Sriya Reddy, and Prakash Raj. Directed by Sujeeth, produced by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under DVV Entertainments, with music composed by Thaman S.
