Dhruv Vikram proudly claimed that Bison is his first film in Tamil after his last two films did not work well at the box office. Interestingly, director Maari Selvaraj put enormous effort into making the film. On the occasion of Diwali, the film was released in theatres in Tamil Nadu. The film opened to a positive response and is performing well in theatres. Despite the clash, the movie is getting good bookings too.
The film captures the struggle for dignity and survival in a world suffocated by caste violence and oppression. Based on the life of a Kabaddi player, Manathi Ganesan, the film follows Kittan (Dhruv Vikram), a young man caught in an endless cycle of hostility and revenge in rural Tamil Nadu.
Though Bison treads familiar sports drama beats, Mari’s focus on caste realities, emotional suffocation, and the quiet rebellion of perseverance gives the narrative emotional weight and sociopolitical depth.
Dhruv delivers a measured performance that comes alive in the later portions. Given the positive reception the film is receiving, it is likely that Telugu audiences will also warmly embrace the movie upon its release in the Telugu states.
We have to see if Dhruv lives up to the stature of his father.
