Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, which stormed past the 700 Crores mark worldwide, has created history at the Kannada box office by becoming the first film to breach into the coveted 200 Crore club in Karnataka. The film has already became the highest grossing film in the state by surpassing the lifetime collections of its predecessor Kantara which grossed ₹183 Crores.
On its 18th day this Sunday, the folklore drama achieved another big milestone with its total collections touching the unprecedented 200 Crores mark.
Kantara:Chapter 1 released amid huge expectations on October 2nd. Due to glowing word of mouth and positive reviews, the prequel saw impressive footfalls in the opening weekend and continued its strong run on weekdays as well.
The film registered solid occupancies in Hindi circuits and South India in the first two weeks. While the global success has reaffirmed the hype surrounding the Kantara franchise, the box office achievement in Karnataka will be termed as huge success for Rishab Shetty at home.
While previous pan-India hits like KGF 2 and Kantara failed to set up the 200 Crore club back home, the prequel has finally ended the long wait for the Kannada trade circles. Rishab Shetty has once again proved his mettle as a director and an actor with this attempt.
His mind-blowing performance in different avatars and stunning narration made the film a blockbuster. Kantara Chapter 1 also became the second Kannada film after KGF 2 to collect more than 100 Crores in overseas.
