Actress Anupama Parameswaran has approached the Kerala Cyber Crime Police after being targeted in an organised online harassment campaign. She revealed that several fake social media accounts were created to circulate morphed pictures and false claims about her, her family, and friends from the film industry.
Anupama shared a detailed note on Instagram explaining that the issue came to her notice a few days ago when an account started posting inappropriate and fabricated content. “The posts included morphed pictures and baseless allegations. It was deeply distressing to witness such targeted harassment,” she wrote.
Following her complaint, the police investigation traced the activity to a 20-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu who allegedly operated multiple fake profiles. However, Anupama said she has decided not to reveal the young woman’s identity considering her age. “I do not wish to compromise her future or peace of mind,” she stated.
The actress confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and used the moment to highlight the responsibility that comes with using social media. “Owning a smartphone or having access to social media does not give anyone the right to harass, defame or spread hatred. Every action online leaves a trace, and accountability will follow,” she wrote.
Anupama also opened up about the emotional impact of online hate and stressed the need for awareness about cyber laws. “Being a public figure doesn’t strip away basic rights. Cyberbullying is a punishable offence,” she added.
On the professional front, 2025 has been a strong year for Anupama with multiple releases including Dragon, Paradha, Kishkindhapuri, JSK, The Pet Detective, and Bison. She will next be seen in the Tamil film Lockdown.
