Upasana’s Eggs Freezing Statement Sparks Big Debate

Upasana Konidela is expecting her second child now, and she’s already in her second trimester. She recently interacted with students at IIT Hyderabad, and one small moment from that session suddenly turned into a huge online debate. She shared that when she asked the students how many wanted to get married, more men raised their hands than women. The women, she noted, seemed more career-driven. She called this “Progressive India” and encouraged them to set goals and stay unstoppable. Within hours, people online picked up that part and started debating like crazy.

Some netizens questioned her statement, asking if it’s really necessary for women to delay marriage or family planning just to build a career. They say plenty of women today manage both work and home, without feeling forced to choose one. A few others argued that young women are influenced too much by this “career first” mindset and end up pushing family life too far, sometimes realising late that they wanted kids earlier.

Some netizens pointed out that what many celebrities avoid discussing is the simple reality that biology doesn’t always wait for our career timelines. For both men and women, the chances of conception decline noticeably with age. Fertility challenges, high-risk pregnancies, and complications increase after the early to mid-30s, no matter how progressive society becomes.

But then, another group came out defending Upasana, saying financial independence is extremely important and women should have full control over their timelines. And honestly, Upasana herself has always been open about her choices. She married Ram Charan in 2012, focused on her work for almost a decade, and welcomed her first child in 2023. During those years, people constantly questioned her about not having kids, even spreading rumours about health issues. She repeatedly said she would become a mother when she was ready, and that’s exactly what happened.

Upasana has also spoken openly about freezing her eggs early in marriage, calling it an “insurance policy” that helped her plan life on her own terms. She believes women don’t have to sacrifice their career for kids or skip motherhood for work, both can be done, just not in the timeline society pushes. Naturally, this point has supporters and critics, and the debate around her IIT talk is still going strong.
