When free subscribers use these platforms or channels without paying any charges, running ads in between streaming of content is acceptable. Many users with premium subscription are complaining now a days that many of the OTT platforms are running multiple ads during a two and a half hour movie. The frustration is evident because many are expressing dissent over this strategy because they are paying high subscription fees only to watch these platforms without any interruption.
Recently, one Major Ott platform also faced severe backlash from netizens for excessive display of ads during exclusive events for its paid subscribers. Many users feel this as an unfair trade practice which goes against the wishes of consumers. This unethical strategy has been drawing widespread criticism from all quarters and now many OTT platforms are at the risk of losing paid subscribers.
The growing patronage for OTT viewing has given rise to numerous players in the market and this has led to heavy competition among them to secure the video streaming rights at exorbitant prices. In order to recoup their investment, these platforms require more number of paid subscribers and adequate commercials from big companies. In this process, the display of advertisements at regular intervals.
