Darshan’s new film The Devil released on Thursday across Karnataka. The early morning shows opened to big crowds, and many theatres reported housefull status. Even with high ticket prices, fans came in large numbers, showing that Darshan’s craze is still very strong in these controversial times.
But here’s the catch: No one can give ratings or reviews for the film The Devil. Following the makers’ appeal, the film team got a court order that stops all online reviews, ratings, and comments. Because of this, platforms like BookMyShow have removed the rating option. The makers want to avoid any negative or misleading comments during the first days of release.
From the early shows, word of mouth is mixed. Some are liking Darshan’s dual-role performance. Others feel the film is not fully impressive. Since reviews are blocked, only these early reactions on social media are giving an idea of the audience response.
Bengaluru multiplexes have added huge shows on the first day, and quite a few of them are running full. Cutouts, posters, and fan celebrations outside theatres show the huge support for Darshan.
Darshan is currently in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. He was arrested in the Renukaswamy murder case, where he is accused of involvement in the abduction and assault that led to the victim’s death. He got medical bail once due to back pain but later returned to jail. He continues to remain in custody as the case is still going on.
With Darshan in jail, The Devil is releasing without its lead actor for promotions. For fans, the film has become the only chance to see him on screen.
