Blow to The Raja Saab : Shuffle in Sankranthi Release Dates

Though multiple films release every Sankranthi season, uncertainty around release dates often continues until the last minute. This year, seven films, including dubbed releases, are confirmed for the festive window. One of them is Parasakthi, and its decision to prepone the release by a few days could pose a minor challenge for The Raja Saab.

Parasakthi, a Tamil film starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Sudha Kongara, marks her Tamil outing after Soorarai Pottru, which received nationwide acclaim. Parasakthi, reportedly based on the theme of anti-Hindi imposition, also stars Sreeleela, Jayam Ravi, and Atharva. It was initially scheduled for release on January 14. However, due to a scarcity of screens overseas, the makers are now planning to prepone the release to January 10.

Prabhas’ The Raja Saab was announced for a January 9 release in all languages except Tamil. In Tamil Nadu, the film was planned for January 10 to avoid a clash with Jana Nayagan on January 09. The makers aimed for a solo release across all the states. With Parasakthi now almost confirmed for a January 10 release, The Raja Saab may find it difficult to get a solo date in Tamil Nadu.

Although five Telugu films are releasing this Sankranthi, The Raja Saab is the only one opting for a Tamil release. It remains to be seen whether the film will stick to January 10 in Tamil or prepone it to January 9, in line with other language versions.

As of now, the Sankranthi releases in the Telugu states are scheduled as follows:
The Raja Saab – January 9
Jana Nayakudu – January 9
Parasakthi – January 10
Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu – January 12
Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi – January 13
Anaganaga Oka Raju – January 14
Nari Nari Naduma Murari – January 15

In Tamil Nadu, the Pongal releases include Jana Nayagan on January 9, Parasakthi on January 10 and The Raja Saab on January 10. With nearly seven films arriving in a single window, it will be interesting to see how they perform at the box office and how exhibitors manage screen allocation, especially in telugu states, without major issues.
