Akhanda 2 Refuse To Give Up in B, C Centres

Due to a delayed release and mixed reports, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much hyped mythological action drama Akhanda 2, which marked his fourth collaboration with director Boyapati Srinu, did not the meet the desired trade expectations at the box office.

However, the film has not entirely lost its steam even after two weeks of its release as B and C centres are witnessing decent footfalls on weekends and holidays.

After a decent first weekend, Akhanda 2 saw a decline in collections in multiplexes of A centres. But, Balakrishna’s image in mass pockets is helping the collections in B and C centres. As most of the new releases fell flat at the box office, Akhanda 2 still continues to collect decent revenues due to good occupancies in single screens of B and C centres. The film has collected more than 1 Crore on every single day in the second week.

Taking advantage of the Christmas holiday, the film managed to gross more than 2 Crores on Thursday. The total gross is nearing 120 Crores and trade circles are expecting that the film is likely to have a strong run in the upcoming weekend and during New Year eve.

Though Balakrishna’s intense performance and high-voltage action blocks did cater to the masses very well, the overall output didn’t meet the high expectations on the sequel.

Despite its mediocre run, Akhanda 2 joined the 100 Crore club and turned out to be the fifth consecutive film in Balakrishna’s career to achieve the milestone.

But, the box office target for this sequel, which carried massive expectations prior to its release, is way bigger than what it has collected so far. Moreover, it did tremendous pre-release business in all territories. This is why the film is likely to end as an average grosser from trade’s perspective.
