Raja Saab Sets the Ground in South, but What About North?

Horror romantic comedy ‘The Raja Saab’ is the next pan-India biggie which will have a humongous release all over the country because of Prabhas’ massive stardom in both South India and North states. The Maruthi directional will hit the screens on January 9th ahead of the popular Sankranti festival.

As the film was mounted on a staggering budget, the makers sold it for whopping prices in all languages including Hindi. It now needs a phenomenal theatrical performance to recoup the investment and put the buyers in safe zone. For this happen, the film should benefit from Prabhas’ huge market and craze among Hindi audiences. How the film performs in Hindi circuits will decide the overall box office fate.

The Raja Saab has managed to create a strong response in Tollywood ahead of its release, thanks to the crowd pleasing audio pre-release event and the second trailer which made everyone awestruck because not many were expecting Maruthi to come up with such out-of-world and mind numbing visuals with a tinge of emotion and drama.

But, the only worrying factor now is that the makers have not yet kick started promotions in North India. This is a quite strange and disappointing because Prabhas carries unrivalled fan base among all South actors in North territories. Moreover, The Raja Saab will need to perform extremely well in Hindi markets to emerge as box office hit.

Horror comedy is a time-tested genre in Bollywood market. Such films when narrated with a strong conviction will gain strong traction from audiences in North India. In recent times, films like Stree 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 witnessed a terrific patronage from Bollywood fans.

Given that The Raja Saab also falls in the same category and that too with Prabhas in the lead role and prominent Bollywood stars like Sanjay Dutt and Zarina Wahab in crucial characters, all it requires is just a solid publicity campaign to give a big boost to the theatrical prospects. Unfortunately, the makers have ignored Hindi promotions so far and this is quite strange and surprising.

With less than two weeks to ago, the team will need to amp up promotions in all languages and especially concentrate on Hindi market so that the buzz in North market pics up before release.

The performance of the film in Hindi circuits will be closely observed by trade circles as there are big milestones with respect to box office numbers.

Though it too late, there is still some time left for the team to plan a few publicity campaigns in major cities of North to aggressively promote the film in the next few days by bringing Sanjay Dutt into the ring.

As Bollywood’s recent blockbuster Dhurandhar still continues to dominate the ticket windows, The Raja Saab needs strong promotions to shift the attention of audience towards it. This will create adequate hype and result in terrific openings.
