The market for Telugu films is on a steady rise in Japan over the last few years. Japanese audience are showering immense love on our actors through greetings and wishes whenever big-ticket films release there. And, the growing apetite for Telugu films is pushing our top league actors to personally woo audiences there as part of promotions in return for their love.
Last year, Prabhas landed in Tokyo to promote Baahubali: The Epic. Though the Baahubali actor received lots of love from moviegoers there, the film’s lukewarm theatrical response in Japan did not excite trade circles much.
Now, another pan-India Telugu star is set to enthrall Japan fans. Pushpa star Allu Arjun, who won global acclaim for his power packed performance in the two part crime thriller, landed in Tokyo to greet his fans ahead of the release of his blockbuster second installment.
Allu Arjun received a thunderous response from crowds in Japan and his recreation of iconic Pushparaj mannerisms brought the houses down with huge applause. Allu Arjun alongside his co-star Rashmika Mandanna greeted the crowd with a cheerful “Konnichiwa” ( Hello).
Pushpa 2: The Rule will hit Japanese theatres on January 16, with Geek Pictures and Shochiku teaming up with Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings to get a wide release in nearly 250 screens. The theatrical response of Pushpa 2 in Japan will be closely followed now to gauge the market for Telugu films as Baahubali: The Epic did not collect the desired revenues.
Previously, Telugu films RRR and Baahubali 2 performed on a strong note in Japan. After Rajinikanth’s Muthu, only these two Indian films managed to evoke a strong response from Japanese audience. With Rajamouli’s The Epic failing to elicit an expected theatrical response, it remains to be seen how Pushpa 2 fares in Japan.
