Amid media speculation that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s cop drama Spirit with Prabhas is targeting Sankranti festival in 2027, the makers have suddenly dropped a huge update to put a stop to the ongoing rumours.
As per the formal announcement, the much anticipated cop drama will hit the screens on March 5th next year ahead of the Maha Shivaratri festival. This is an ideal release planning for a marquee pan-India film like Spirit due to the long Summer season ahead and also because of less competition unlike the jam-packed Sankranti festival which will see a flurry of releases.
As of now, there is no big competition for Spirit from other biggies in any language. The film will have an open ground at the box office until Eid festival which falls on Wednesday.
After looking at how this year’s Sankranti films are struggling to add additional number of screens despite growing demand for tickets, trade analysts and industry circles feel that big-ticket films are losing revenues due to competition from other films during festival seasons.
Big-budget films require long run and solo release to recoup the investment unlike heavily occupied Sankranti seasons. The makers of Spirit did the right thing to opt for a pre-Summer release and that too before Shivaratri and Eid festival. Spirit is expected to a staggering start at the box office due to the massive expectations on the combination.
The promotional content of Spirit unveiled so far has created a solid impact in audience and augmented the hype instantly. Prabhas is appearing as a cop in the film for the first time in his career. So, the hype keeps building in the coming days.
Prabhas is expected to be seen in a raw and gritty role with a strong narrative. Animal beauty and talented actress Tripti Dimri is playing the female lead while Vivek Oberoi is said to have a significant role.
