The producers in the film industry earlier highlighted that the OTT platforms have become the deciding authorities when it comes to finalizing the release dates of movies. Now, a new point has been highlighted where OTT platforms and the deals they offer become deciding factors for the remunerations of stars.
Interestingly, producer Srujan shared an example of the same. “A hero’s film secures an OTT deal worth ₹10 crore, but another film with the same hero and a smaller production gets only ₹4 crore from OTT platforms. This creates a misconception around heroes demanding higher remuneration. The issue lies in OTT platforms not acquiring films purely on merit,” he shared.
The scenario is kind of messy with a lot of producers approaching the OTT platforms for better deals, based on what has been offered in the past for the same hero. But, the OTT platforms are being partial towards the producers by bringing in the factors of banner value, production aspects, or some other combination parameters.
Eventually, the producers are on the side of taking the toll. For heroes, they are unbothered of all these deals and they will only keep hiking the remunerations based on the previous film’s deal. The remuneration will also does not come down for any other reason in this context.
A lot of small producers and production houses will have to face this issue constantly and there is no other way out for them. But, the stars must also realise the ground reality and understand the practical scenarios and cooperate with the producers.
