The trailer of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond is finally out, and as expected, it has triggered intense discussions across social media platforms. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the sequel moves beyond Kerala and shifts its focus to states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The film reportedly follows three Hindu girls whose relationships allegedly result in forced religious conversion, continuing the hard-hitting and controversial theme established in the first installment. While a section of viewers is backing the makers for boldly addressing a sensitive issue, another section is questioning the narrative and its implications as propaganda.
What makes this release even more interesting is the current strict approach of the CBFC across industries. In Tollywood, even small film titles like Hey Bhagawan and Vanara were asked to change their titles to He Balwanth and Vanaveera respectively dues to censor restrictions. A romantic drama like Couple Friendly was awarded an A certificate because of its title.
When it comes to Tamili cinema, Kollywood too witnessed similar scrutiny. The release of Jana Nayagan starring Vijay was halted, while Parashakti reportedly underwent multiple cuts before clearance ahead of its release.
Given this backdrop, all eyes are now on the CBFC’s decision regarding The Kerala Story 2. The trailer has many objectionable scenes like a girl being forced to change her religion, eat beef and much more.
With its politically and socially sensitive content, will the board suggest heavy cuts, demand modifications, or clear it with an ‘A’ certificate? to favor the alleged propoganda strategy. The coming weeks will reveal how the censor authorities handle yet another controversial film.
