Telugu audiences are open to any movie in any language. At the same time, they are also open to welcoming filmmakers from other languages. However, many directors from other languages take this as an opportunity to test their luck in Telugu cinema. Oftentimes, they fail to strike a chord with the audiences and we have two latest examples with respect to the same.
Action King Arjun recently directed a film titled Seetha Payanam, which introduced his daughter Aishwarya as the heroine. The film had a lot of notable actors, and it was shot well. Arjun and Aishwarya also aggressively promoted the film but it did not get the right attention. Additionally, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar recently turned into a director, and the scenario is more or less the same.
Interestingly, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar came up with S Saraswathi, and it also had big faces. Thaman also scored the music for the film. ETV Win backed the film, and it has all boxes checked correctly. Despite that, the film has failed in its execution. From the two examples, it is evident that the audiences want to be entertained, irrespective of the genre and the story. But what matters is the presentation.
Both the films Seetha Payanam and S. Saraswathi failed in terms of presentation, with outdated filmmaking techniques and unimpressive narration. Meanwhile, both Arjun and Varalaxmi are prominent actors in Tamil cinema.
Considering the current scenario, if other directors or actors-turned-directors experiment in the Telugu market without fully analysing the audience, it could become a roadblock for them. Instead, they should understand how to present films in an entertaining way that aligns with the audience’s tastes.
