Reports from Tamil media suggest that Amazon Prime Video may have stepped away from the digital rights deal for the upcoming Vijay film Jana Nayagan. The news has quickly spread across film circles, creating concern among fans and trade analysts.
However, industry observers feel these reports might be premature and unreliable. It has been only two months since the film’s release was postponed, and such temporary delays often lead to speculation about OTT deals.
A similar situation occurred earlier with Hari Hara Veera Mallu. At that time, there were reports claiming that the OTT platform had backed out of the agreement. Later, it became clear that the platform had only negotiated a revised price, while the deal itself remained intact.
Because of such precedents, many believe the current reports about Jana Nayagan may simply be industry gossip rather than confirmed information. Until the makers or the OTT platform issue an official statement, the situation remains unclear.
At the same time, if the reports do turn out to be true, it could be seen as a warning sign for films that face repeated postponements, as OTT platforms often reassess deals when release plans change frequently. For now, the trade is closely watching the developments around the film and its digital rights deal.
