If there is one South Indian superstar oriented film that faced extreme external pressure, it would be Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. This film was supposed to release during the Pongal festival season, but it still hasn’t seen daylight due to censor issues.
On one hand, the film is facing a critical battle with the censor issues, and on the other, we have Vijay himself who is under the CBI radar as he undergoes investigation in the Karur stampede case.
And now that the Tamil Nadu election schedule is out, one might have expected clarity on Jana Nayagan release date. But that is not the case now, as more uncertainty is emerging in the trade circles.
Firstly, the film might not be permitted to release during the election season, considering the obvious political implications due to Vijay’s presence. And moreover, Vijay would also be more focused on his political ambitions than this stalled film.
But at the same time, the investors might be panicking about the delay as further postponement beyond May 4 could prove catastrophic. In case, Vijay’s TVK does not perform as expected in Tamil Nadu elections, this could impede the morale of fans and also dampen the buzz on the film among general public.
It is confirmed in principal that Tamil Nadu elections will be held on April 23 and results will be out on May 4. So there is barely a month and half to go for the whole process to be completed, and we shall patiently wait and see what would be the next step from the makers of this Vijay film.
