Indian cinema is witnessing an absolute sensation at the ticket counters in the form of Dhurandhar 2. This film is on overdrive mode at the domestic and overseas box office as virtually unforeseen numbers are being registered all across.
Apart from the monstrous numbers that are being established in the domestic market, this Ranveer Singh film is scripting history even in North America. The fact that it could collect over $10 million. In a spam of just three days is an indication of the same as this is the first time that an Indian film is able to touch $10 million mark within the first weekend.
A few trade seniors are pointing out that Dhurandhar 2 appears to be setting new benchmarks in terms of box office revenues for upcoming biggies from Indian cinema. And the most significant on the list is obviously Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s Varanasi.
Rajamouli is widely regarded as the iconic film maker who started the trend of setting new unprecedented records at the ticket counters. And now he has a stiff challenge at the North American box office in the form of Dhurandhar 2.
It is practically and numerically tough to touch the $10 million mark for any Indian film in the opening three days and Dhurandhar 2 has been successful in doing the same. Now it is natural for trade to expect Rajamouli to possibly break this record with Varanasi.
On paper, it is going to be tough for Varanasi to register such numbers and Dhurandhar 2, being a sequel helped its cause.
But at the same time, Rajamouli himself cannot be taken lightly as Varanasi is his next big film after epic RRR, which scripted Indian history with its Oscar victory. So Varanasi will be heavily marketed as the next film from Oscar Director(best song) and that will play into its popularity.
Also, Rajamouli is an absolute genius when it comes to marketing, and this was evident multiple times. More importantly, a large portion of the western population was amazed by the interval fight in RRR after the Netflix release. This legacy and reputation of Rajamouli will carry forward for Varanasi, which will ultimately lead to North American revenues.
Whatever might be the reason, it is absolutely astounding to see Indian Cinema, great Heights at the global level and that’s for certain.
