One of the prolific actors of Indian cinema, Nandamuri Balakrishna, was honoured on a national stage as he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural edition of the International Film Festival Delhi. Balakrishna was honoured with this award for his contribution to cinema over the last five decades.
Along with Balayya, veteran Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore was honoured for her Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema, and legendary actor Dharmendra was paid a special tribute posthumously, with his wife Hema Malini receiving the award. PVR Cinemas’ Managing Director Ajay Bijli was also honoured at the event.
In his career spanning over 50 years, Balayya has acted in more than 100 films and contributed significantly to Telugu cinema. Recently, he was also conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India.
On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched IFFD at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan in Delhi. The ceremony witnessed the presence of various political and film celebrities, including Delhi’s Minister for Art, Culture, and Languages Kapil Mishra, Deputy Delhi CM Parvesh Verma, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, and actors Kangana Ranaut, Manoj Tiwari, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Aravind Swamy, Ajay Bijli, and others.
The festival will be held till March 31, where many films from various countries will be screened, with films from Spain being the main focus.
