Pakistanis Demand Money From Dhurandhar Team?

Lyari town in Pakistan has grabbed the spotlight ever since Ranveer Singh’s Bollywood film Dhurandhar released in December last year because the core plot unfolds in the once notorious locality famous for its underworld criminal activities involving the infamous Baloch gang. 

As the film went on to become a huge blockbuster and the sequel is currently shattering numerous box office records worldwide, Lyari town has become a major talking point everywhere in the media and among general public as well. 

Despite the fact that Dhurandhar faced a theatrical ban in Pakistan over the alleged anti-Pakistan theme, it received unprecedented viewership on Netflix platform. Even though sequel has also been banned in Pakistan, the local people of Lyari are well aware on how the film is performing all over the globe. 

In a rather strange request, residents of Lyari have demanded 500 crore, or even a 70–80 per cent share, from the film’s earnings for the welfare of their city. The unusual demand came through a YouTube channel interaction with the local people who put an earnest request to director Aditya Dhar to contribute for the development of basic amenities in Lyari town. 

The videos, which are currently going viral,  show residents acknowledging that Dhurandhar is a very big film which collected over 1000 Crores and also pleading the team to donate at least 500 Crores for repairing roads as children are unable walk on them. Some even demanded 70-80% earnings from the film’s total collections. 

The surprising reaction from the people of Lyari not only highlighted the tremendous reception of Dhurandhar beyond India but also exposes the plight of some of the towns which still lack any support from the Pakistani government. 

Interestingly, the entire filming of scenes involving the Lyari  in both Dhurandhar and the sequel was carried out in a special set built in Thailand where the town was recreated for this purpose.
