Ram Gopal Varma has sparked a major debate with his latest statement, where he credited underworld don Dawood Ibrahim for shaping his career. Known for cult gangster films like Satya and Company, RGV made a surprising revelation in a recent interaction.
He stated that he had even dedicated his autobiography to Dawood Ibrahim, but the publisher removed the reference. Varma openly admitted that without Dawood’s existence, he wouldn’t have been able to make films like Satya and Company, which played a crucial role in establishing his identity as a filmmaker.
Interestingly, RGV also revealed that unlike many in the industry during the 90s, he never received threat calls from the underworld. According to him, gangsters appreciated the way he portrayed their lives on screen, as his films were inspired by real-life incidents and had a sense of authenticity.
RGV’s statement “I earn my living because of Dawood Ibrahim” has now gone viral, with many calling it bold and controversial. While some see it as an honest admission about creative inspiration, others feel it reopens a sensitive chapter of Indian cinema history.
