Sai Pallavi’s Another Debut in a Tragic Love Story

One of South India’s most prolific actresses, Sai Pallavi, is making her Bollywood debut with Ek Din, co-starring Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, in the lead role. The film’s latest theatrical trailer has been unveiled today, and going by it, Ek Din looks like a tragic love story, just like Sai Pallavi’s debut film, Premam.

If one remembers, Sai Pallavi made a striking debut with the Malayalam film Premam in 2015. She played the role of a teacher who falls in love with her student. Unfortunately, their love story ends on a tragic note when Pallavi loses her memory in an accident.

Now, Ek Din features Pallavi in the role of a girl who suffers from ‘transient global amnesia’ where a person loses his/her memory for a day. How Junaid Khan’s character copes with this harsh truth and remains his lady love’s support system forms the main crux of the story.

Ek Din introduces Junaid’s character as an introvert tech-geek working at a corporate company. He secretly admires Sai Pallavi, who works in the same office. They all go to Japan on a vacation, and there, Junaid learns that Pallavi is dating their boss (Kunal Kapoor).

However, after a series of incidents, Pallavi meets with an accident, and that’s when Junaid learns that she suffers from transient global amnesia. The doctor tells him that she forgets her entire past for a day and remembers it once again the next day.

However, she forgets what she went through the other day after remembering her past. The rest of the story is about how the lead couple’s love grows amidst the girl’s challenging disease.

The trailer is filled with heartening moments and a soulful background score. Sai Pallavi looks like a perfect fit for the role. Junaid looks decent as a shy tech-geek. On the whole, Ek Din looks like a promising romantic drama, which Bollywood is lacking for the last few years. It remains to be seen if the film strikes a chord with the audience when it hits the screens on May 1.
