The summer season has officially begun, and in the absence of big-ticket releases, several small to medium-range films are arriving in theatres to capitalise on the long holiday window. Gaayapadda Simham, starring Tharun Bhascker and Kasyap Sreenivas, is one such film.
While the involvement of presenter Pavan Sadineni and distributor Dil Raju helped generate some pre-release buzz, it is Sree Vishnu who has emerged as the real saviour of the film with his extended cameo.
It is, in many ways, Sree Vishnu’s show all the way in Gaayapadda Simham, with his presence driving much of the entertainment in the second half. The spoof sequences referencing Salaar, Pokiri, Bommarillu, Arjun Reddy, and KGF are drawing strong responses and bringing cheer in theatres.
The film opened on a slow note with moderate occupancy for the morning and matinee shows, but word of mouth from the first shows is beginning to make an impact. Bookings for the second day are also showing an encouraging trend, indicating growing interest.
If this momentum continues, GPS could emerge as one of the season’s surprise winners.
