Cinematographer Rathnavelu has shared interesting details about Peddi, starring Ram Charan and directed by Buchi Babu Sana. Rathnavelu revealed that he connected emotionally with the script the moment he heard it nearly two years ago and felt it was one of the best stories he had listened to in recent times.
He described Peddi as an emotional journey that follows a man through different stages of life. Rathnavelu especially praised Ram Charan’s performance, calling it the actor’s career best work and saying audiences will strongly connect with the emotional moments in the film.
Rathnavelu admitted that differentiating Peddi from Rangasthalam was a major challenge since both films are rooted in village backdrops. However, he said he avoided glossy visuals and instead focused on a more natural and immersive style that suits the film’s emotional tone.
The cinematographer also revealed that a key cricket sequence was shifted from day to night shoot after his suggestion. According to him, the lighting and shadows added stronger emotional depth to the scene and impressed both Buchi Babu and Ram Charan after filming.
Speaking about Ram Charan’s transformation, Rathnavelu said the actor worked very hard to switch between different looks including a cricketer and wrestler. He added that the viral wrestling glimpse featuring sand falling from Ram Charan’s back was completely real without any visual effects.
Rathnavelu concluded by saying that Peddi is a rooted Indian film driven by emotion and realism. He added that the cricket scenes were designed with a raw gully cricket feel to give audiences a fresh and immersive cinematic experience.
