Malayalam Cinema Yet To Start the Big Opening Trend?

Malayalam films are regarded as content-oriented films, and there is always special attention towards these movies. Especially when these films feature noted actors, the reception will always be different.

Interestingly, Athiradi is a new film at the box office in Kerala, performing well but with a decent start. The film collected a revenue of Rs. 4.75 crore on its Day 3, registering a spike of 10 percent from the previous day. Altogether, the film grossed 15 Cr rupees.

However, despite the presence of Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph in the film, it is not performing at its best. It is a common trend in Malayalam cinema that, despite the star power, the films sometimes fail to register a solid opening. The slow opening this time could be attributed to the political tension in Kerala, but earlier, the situation was also similar.

The action comedy is directed by Arun Anirudhan, and the film has already turned out to be a success. In the final run, the film will surprise the trade pundits by collecting a huge amount of money as the movie has a free run of one week more before Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 arrives in theatres.

Athiradi follows the story of Samkutty, a cringe-yet-energetic civil engineering student who loves concrete and is on a mission to revive his college’s legendary “Arohan” fest, which was banned by the management after a stampede a few years back.

His plans are thrown into chaos when the event’s chief guest, Vineeth Sreenivasan, and also an unexpected guest, Shaan Rahman, are kidnapped by Sreekuttan Vellayani “Kuttan”, a notorious goon turned musician.
