Peddi has entered a crucial phase at the box office with the weekend expected to play a major role in deciding its long run.
The film has largely received positive feedback for its emotional sports backdrop, Ram Charan’s committed performance and the strong message it carries. A.R. Rahman’s music has also been widely appreciated, while the action episodes delivered the mass appeal audiences expected. Veteran actor Shiva Rajkumar emerged as another major highlight with his powerful screen presence and impactful role.
However, most of these positives have been pushed into the background because of the controversy surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s character. Many family audiences felt uncomfortable with the way her role was introduced and how the romantic portions involving Ram Charan were presented. That criticism quickly became the main talking point around the film.
Director Buchi Babu responded to the feedback seriously and shared a detailed note on social media. He clarified that he has immense respect for women and would never intentionally create content that insults them. He also confirmed that a few scenes which received objections would be modified from today’s shows onwards.
The move is earning appreciation because many filmmakers usually avoid accepting criticism publicly. Some directors even defend controversial scenes instead of addressing audience concerns. Buchi Babu, however, chose to react quickly and make corrections without unnecessary arguments.
At the same time, some viewers feel these changes could have been made earlier during editing itself. But filmmakers often believe certain scenes may connect with mass audiences while working on the final cut. Many films with bolder content have released earlier too, though not all of them faced this kind of intense discussion.
Now the updated version of Peddi will be seen in theatres. Janhvi Kapoor earlier had limited scope in Devara as well, and the response to her role in Peddi has once again become mixed. Instead of using her mainly for glamour, filmmakers may need to focus more on presenting her in stronger and more performance driven characters in the future.
