Lady superstar Anushka Shetty’s ‘Bhaagamathie’ collected Rs 30 crore at the box office and it showcased the true potential of Anushka. The film wasn’t bad either. It had its moments and the Telugu audiences loved the film. It eventually ended up as a hit. This film has gone to Bollywood and was remade as ‘Durgamati.’
Starring Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role, the film started streaming on Amazon Prime from Thursday midnight. The reviews are out and they are disastrous. The critics gave less than two stars and this shows how bad the film was.
The New Indian Express gave one and half stars and the bottom line for their review of ‘Durgamati’ was unintentionally hilarious. NDTV’s review by Sabai Chatterjee wrote, “All that the film manages to be is insufferably exasperating as it blathers on without let.” The rating of NDTV is just one star.
FirstPost review by Anna MM Vetticab hailed the original film i.e, Bhaagamathie. “I am not in love with Bhaagamathie, but it was certainly not an ordinary film – Shetty was far more arresting in it, so were the visuals and the camerawork,” wrote the critic. Another review from India Today read that the Bhumi Pednekar film is old wine in an old bottle.
On the whole, Bollywood has produced yet another dud on OTT.
