Deewana is one of the new Telugu films released last Friday. After Maa Inti Bangaaram, Deewana is the second film doing moderate among the five new releases this week. Despite average performance at box office, the team received positive appreciation from the audiences and critics but underwent issues from the censor board. In a promotional event today, the team expressed their displeasure over the turnout of events.
Before the release itself, due to some censorship issues, the team had to postpone the film’s release by a day. The censor board asked the makers to remove some scenes involving a kid and also a song, which the team thinks is the heart of the film which they treated with great creative touch. Having said that, the team and even those who watched the film termed that the said portions are not objectionable and does not attract an A certificate.
Sharing his pain, the film’s music director Eshwa Chand revealed that many other films with cuss words and objectionable portions are hitting the screens with U/A certificate. But, they had to take an A certificate inspite of agreeing to all censor guidelines.
“There are some big films. I won’t take names, but the public expressed their concerns all over the internet, and those films were certified U/A. Our film was certified A despite receiving no such concerns. Even in my own family, only three people were able to watch it in theatres instead of eight,” the music director said.
Even the film’s director Sreekanth Sangishetty cried on the stage today, expressing his unhappiness. “Someone who is sitting in Bombay is not able to digest the popularity and dominance of Telugu cinema because of which they are creating unnecessary troubles to us. The particular track in discussions is something that I treated aesthetically on the screen, with an intention to showcase it to my family members to prove my skill. But, today, it has been cut and inspite of that, we have been given an A certificate,” said the director.
A few months ago, the censor board found objections to certain film’s titles and then now, the board seems to be scrutinising the films on stricter grounds. Directed by Sreekanth Sangishetty, Deewana had Harshith Reddy and Smeha in the lead roles.
