Veteran Tamil Filmmaker Bhagyaraj Passes Away!

As South Indian film fraternity grieves the loss of legendary Kollywood director Bharathiraja, who died a few days ago, another tragedy has struck this morning with the sudden death of prominent actor cum director.

As per reports, veteran director and actor K. Bhagyaraj passed away at the age of 73 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest this morning. He was admitted in hospital in Chennai and breathed his last there. Coincidentally, he was a longtime mentor of K. Bharathiraja.

Bhagyaraj made his directorial debut in 1979 with Suvarilladha Chiththirangal. He went on to create a long list of major box-office hits throughout the 1980s, including Oru Kai Osai, Andha 7 Naatkal, Chinna Veedu, and the massive blockbuster Mundhanai Mudichu, which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

In his later years, he continued to delight audiences by playing memorable supporting roles on screen and editing his popular weekly magazine, Bhagya. He has the reputation to write, direct, compose music for, and star as the lead actor in his films, which was a rare talent in those days.

Bhagyaraj is familiar to Telugu audiences as well as he directed and acted in straight films like Mayadari Mogudu, Panthulu garu Pellam and Jeevitha Chakram. He appeared supporting roles as well in recent films like Kuberaa and 35 Chinna Katha Kadhu.
