A Delhi court sentenced BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh to four years in prison for a celebratory firing incident that killed a woman during a New Year’s Eve party in 2018. The court also directed him to pay ₹25 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family.
The judge strongly criticized the growing gun culture and said public representatives cannot misuse power to display heroism. Such reckless acts, the court observed, send a dangerous message to society.
During the verdict, the judge made a striking reference to popular cinema, saying, “We don’t need Pushpa or Singham in a society governed by the rule of law.” The comment quickly went viral on social media.
The court emphasized that no one is above the law and that public office carries greater responsibility, not special privilege. The verdict has drawn widespread attention for both the punishment and the judge’s sharp observation.
