Akhil Akkineni scored a comeback hit with Lenin, which has been performing quite well at the box office and was hoping for a strong second weekend. However, things have become a bit more challenging with the arrival of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The Hollywood biggie has opened to a very positive word of mouth in Telugu states. While some viewers have complained about its lengthy runtime and complex storytelling, the overall response has helped the film register solid occupancy, especially in multiplexes.
Yet another interesting factor is Hyderabad’s response to the film. On its first day in India, Hyderabad emerged as the most occupied city for The Odyssey across both its English and Telugu versions. This clearly shows how interested the Telugu audience was in this film.
On the other hand, the newly released Telugu films, including Oh Sukumari, are not expected to pose a major threat to either Lenin or The Odyssey. The real competition this weekend appears to be between Lenin and The Odyssey.
The Odyssey is unlikely to damage Lenin’s run completely, as the Akhil starrer has decent word of mouth and will attract masses in B and C Centers. However, the Hollywood film could affect Lenin’s collections in urban centers. The second weekend numbers will reveal how much impact The Odyssey has on Lenin’s box office.
