The 72nd National Film Awards have once again sparked debate among movie lovers. While many winners have been appreciated, a section of film fans, especially from Tamil, feel that some deserving performances and films have been overlooked.
One of the biggest talking points is Meiyazhagan, the 2024 film, which was released in Telugu as Satyam Sundaram. The emotional drama received immense praise from audiences and critics alike and was loved by many for its story, emotions, and brilliant performances.
Many considered it one of the finest films and expected it to win either best film or at least a major acting award. Fans were particularly disappointed that neither Karthi nor Arvind Swamy received acting honors. Both actors delivered heartfelt performances and played key roles in making the film a memorable experience.
Another name frequently mentioned by fans is Vikram. Many Tamil movie lovers believed his intense performance in Thangalaan, also released during the same year, deserved an award for the star hero. But that also did not happen, and this has upset many.
Meanwhile, Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan won awards for Bramayugam and Chandu Champion, but the results have once again triggered discussions about whether the National Awards truly recognize the films and performances that are award-worthy.
