The 72nd National Film Awards brought a memorable moment for Niharika Konidela as her debut production, Committee Kurrollu, won the award for best telugu film. The success is even more special because it continues a National Award connection in Niharika’s family.
Not many know but Niharika’s father, Naga Babu also won an National Award as a producer years ago for the acclaimed film Rudraveena which is Naga Babu’s first production, starring Chiranjeevi. At the 36th National Film Awards, Rudraveena won the prestigious Nargis Dutt Award for best feature film on national integration.
However, despite winning critical acclaim and National Awards, Rudraveena did not perform well commercially at the box office. It is still remembered as a classic, but it could not recover its investment during its theatrical run.
On the other hand, Committee Kurrollu has achieved both. The film not only won a National Award but also emerged as a profitable venture for Niharika.
Made with fresh faces and a relatable rural backdrop, the film directed by Yadhu Vamsi connected strongly with audiences. The success of Committee Kurrollu marks a dream debut for Niharika as a producer.
She is now making the biggest film of her career in the form of Bhari. The sports drama features Varun Tej and is about Volleyball set in a rural village of AP. Now that she has won the prestigious award and made the family proud, one needs to see what kind of films she will produce in the days to come.
