Cinema Piracy: Indian Govt Jumps Into Action!

It is already known that cinema piracy has been one of the most detrimental factors against the creative field for the last few years. Despite the best efforts of film producers and the anti piracy teams, almost every film falls prey to this scenario every now and again.

Now the Indian government has jumped into action as they have taken pretty consolidated efforts with regard to the restriction of film piracy.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has assured stronger action against film piracy as he released a public statement to this effect.

The Centre says it has already disabled 7,393 infringing URLs, including 1,263 websites and 4,996 Telegram channels, and is developing a dedicated Anti-Piracy Portal for centralized complaints and faster enforcement.

This is a positive development for the film industry as the fact that the government of India is getting involved could be pretty serious business. In the meanwhile, the domestic police department is also working quickly and the recent arrest of Ibomma Ravi is an example of the same.

Certain film producers have even understood that stopping gulf screening is also restricting the potential spread of piracy prints, so this is another key marker in this area. At a time when the film industry is already struggling with reduced footfalls, every step in this direction helps well.
