Mohanlal’s Daughter’s Debut Gets an Impressive Response

Malayalam cinema has found a new sensation in Thudakkam, the debut film of Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of superstar Mohanlal. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jude Anthany Joseph, the film has taken a stunning start at the box office and has set new benchmarks.

Released on August 7, Thudakkam opened to a good response and impressive occupancy across Kerala. As per the latest update, Thudakkam made Rs 6.8 crore on day one, surpassing Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah, which made Rs 6.6 crore. The film has now crossed Rs 20 crore in its opening weekend, which is a very good number for a debutant-led film, even though Mohanlal plays a crucial role in the movie.

The film continued its momentum over the weekend, posting excellent numbers and emerging as one of the biggest successes among woman-centric Malayalam movies. Though Vismaya is a star kid and had Mohanlal’s backing, the success is significant because female-led films have traditionally found it difficult to match the openings of star hero films.  

Thudakkam has managed to attract family audiences and young viewers alike. The success also marks a major victory for Asish Anthony, who also played a key role in this hit film.  

For Vismaya Mohanlal, this is a dream debut. She plays Meenu in this film, and her performance as a woman fighting against all odds and obstacles in society has become a talking point. One needs to see how she handles her career from here on.
