Tamil star Vikram has landed in controversy after sharing a video of himself interacting with a Lar Gibbon, a rare species native to Southeast Asia. The video quickly went viral on social media, but it also attracted criticism from wildlife activists.
Following the backlash on social media, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has launched an investigation. As per the news, the officials are examining whether all necessary permissions were taken before handling the animal.
Reports suggest the video was shot at the home of Vikram’s relative. Wildlife experts have expressed concern because Lar Gibbons are protected animals and their ownership comes with strict rules and regulations.
The officials are of the opinion that showcasing such animals on social media could encourage the illegal exotic pet trade and send the wrong message to the public. On the other hand, as the controversy grew, Vikram deleted the video from social media.
However, there is no official news that Vikram has violated any law. The incident has sparked widespread discussion and once again highlights the importance of wildlife protection and responsible handling of exotic species, especially by celebs.
