HC Shock to Daggubati Family: Criminal Case to Continue!

In what could be a shock and brewing legal trouble to Daggubatis, the Telangana High Court has refused to quash criminal proceedings against actor Rana Daggubati, Abiram Daggubati, producer Suresh Babu Daggubati, actor Venkatesh Daggubati, in a property dispute related to Deccan Kitchen building in Film Nagar. The High Court refused to quash the theft and house trespass case against the accused.

Justice N Tukaramji dismissed their petition seeking to quash the chargesheet pending before the XVII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Nampally.

The accused argued that the dispute was mainly about lease rights, possession and the demolition of structures. They said it was a civil dispute and should not be treated as a criminal case.

However, the High Court said that the civil nature of the dispute cannot automatically end the criminal case if the complaint shows that a cognizable offence has been committed.

Going into details, the case was filed by businessman Kore Nandu Kumar. He alleged that the accused, along with some GHMC officials, illegally entered the leased property, demolished structures built by him and removed movable items. He also alleged that he and his family were threatened.

The case was initially taken up by the Magistrate after recording the complainant’s statements. Criminal proceedings were then started under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused approached the High Court in 2024 seeking to quash the case. However, the court found no sufficient reason to interfere and dismissed their petition.

With the High Court’s decision, the criminal proceedings against Daggubatis before the Magistrate will now continue.
