Dil Raju Finds Respite in Long Running Copyright Case

Acclaimed Tollywood producer Dil Raju has received significant relief from the Supreme Court in a long-running copyright dispute. The case pertains to a complaint filed way back in 2017 over plagiarism of Dil Raju’s 2011 film Mr. Perfect, which stars Prabhas in the lead role. 

Dil Raju landed in a legal mess after one writer named Shyamala Rani filed a copyright case, claiming that the story of Mr. Perfect was copied from her novel titled Naa Manasu Korindi Ninne. Based on her complaint, a trial court issued notices to the producer under cheating and copyright laws.

Raju then moved higher courts to challenge these notices and protect his reputation. Later, the High Court dropped the cheating charges against Dil Raju but allowed the trial court to continue the case from copyright angle. Unhappy with this decision, Dil Raju approached the Supreme Court in early 2025. 

The apex court paused the trial court proceedings while it examined whether the original complaint was filed within the allowed time limit.

Recently, the complainant’s lawyer requested the Supreme Court to lift this stay order, citing the writer’s age. However, a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant rejected the request. The court stated that it had already considered all details and arguments before pausing the trial court case.

So, the stay on the case will continue for now and gives some respite for senior producer.
