Even though 2026 is still four months away from concluding, the trade and box-office focus has already shifted to Sankranthi 2027. Several big films targeting the festive season have already begun their shoots.
Chiranjeevi and Bobby’s film (Mega 158), Nagarjuna’s King 100, Ravi Teja’s film with Vishnu and Hashit Goli, Venky Kalyan Ram film Anil Ravipudi, and Sharwanand-Sreenu Vaitla’s project have all locked their schedules and started shooting.
However, director Maruthi appears to be the only one lagging behind in the Pongal race. Maruthi’s Happy Pongal, which revolves around the festival and seems ideally suited for a Sankranthi release, was expected to go on floors by now.
But, for reasons not known, there has been no major update on the project yet. Maruthi still hasn’t announced any clear progress on the film’s shooting.
With other Sankranthi releases already moving ahead, pressure is now mounting on the Happy Pongal team to begin work soon. At this point, Maruthi needs to move on from Raja Saab’s setback and focus on his upcoming projects. Starting the shoot and building proper momentum for Happy Pongal will be crucial, especially with the Sankranthi 2027 race already getting crowded.
