Anurag Claims Bollywood Bends To Power, South Doesn’t

Anurag Kashyap has opened up about the power dynamics in Bollywood and why people in the industry often find it difficult to say no to powerful individuals. He believes such compromises may begin with one decision but can eventually become difficult to reverse.

According to Kashyap, people do not necessarily make these compromises willingly. However, once a decision comes with major benefits, walking away becomes increasingly difficult. He compared the situation to opening a door that becomes harder to shut later.

The filmmaker also said that people within the industry are often aware of the compromises they make. Despite feeling embarrassed or even ashamed about certain decisions, they may find themselves in a position where changing the situation becomes difficult.

Kashyap then compared Bollywood with the South Indian film industries. He believes the stronger regional identity and cultural connect in the South gives these industries greater independence from external pressures.

He also pointed to the dependence on the Hindi market as another major difference. According to Kashyap, South industries do not have to compromise to the same extent because they have strong regional markets and audiences of their own.

His comments have once again sparked discussion about the different working cultures across Indian film industries. Kashyap’s take offers an interesting perspective on power, compromises and why regional industries have managed to maintain their own identity.
