Ameer Log, a low budget Telugu film that hit the screens on Friday, has managed to attract some attention on social media. The film features Hari Munnangi, Sasidhar Kocharlakota, Manoj Aavula, Vedha Jalandharr and Raavan Nitturu in key roles.
Written and directed by Ramana Reddy Soma, the film is set in Hyderabad’s Old City and follows three carefree friends as they navigate friendship, responsibility and their search for direction in life.
The film tries to present a simple and relatable story with a strong Hyderabad backdrop. The local setting and youthful characters give it a distinct flavour, though the overall response has been mixed so far.
The makers deserve appreciation for attempting a grounded film with a local setting and relatively simple resources. Instead of going for a larger commercial formula, the team has tried to tell a story around young people, their lives and the Hyderabad environment they know well. Such attempts are important for encouraging new talent and different kinds of Telugu stories.
Occupancy is currently just about okay, with the film yet to see any major jump in footfalls. There are some positive reactions, but the word of mouth is still not strong enough to create a clear momentum.
Ameer Log is also facing tough competition from Ravi Teja’s Irumudi, which is dominating the box office. However, the two films belong to different zones, giving Ameer Log some scope to attract its own set of audiences.
The weekend will be crucial for the film. If the word of mouth improves and the Hyderabad audience starts showing more interest, there is a possibility of a small pickup in collections. The Sunday numbers should give a better indication of where the film stands.
